Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence), the best friends and detectives of the Miami Police Department, are tasked with uncovering a plot that involves a person they greatly admired.
Even though age is no longer on their side, the duo still has speed, strength, and occasionally insane abilities. Buddy cop comedies were popular in the past. Films change over time, but Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah demonstrate that a well-made theme can still be relevant. A nonsensical but extremely entertaining action comedy feels like a welcome break from the true-crime, cerebral sci-fi, biopic, and long-running television series that have taken up our viewing time recently. The cult cop comedy of the 1990s sees a welcome revival in the Bad Boys franchise’s fourth installment.
In addition, the film marks Will Smith’s strong return to the likeable Will Smith we knew before the contentious slapgate. This is him at his best again, radiating the energy of a movie star and the Smith brand of humor and humanity. The incredible Martin Lawrence not only enhances Smith’s crazy antics but also rekindles their craziness and chemistry. The racial humor could only have been done by him without being offensive. It’s fun to watch their near-perfect comedic timing, and the bad jokes never get old. This is a light-hearted roller coaster because the story cleverly incorporates hilarious and heartfelt banter between the two rival friends with quick action. Along with the bad guys, the elderly heroes battle high blood pressure and sugar. Even though the story shows these characters’ emotional sides, the movie never gets sentimental. The thrill and excitement are amplified by action sequences, and the humor feels timely given that the lead detectives, who are in their 50s, are battling age-related issues.
It’s refreshing to see actors accept their age and physical limitations in their roles. “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is a concept of male perspective on Sex and the city’s most famous line. It is an ode to male friendship and brotherhood. “Maybe our brothers are our soulmates, and our wives are just fun people?” On my opinion, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” may be without any doubt one of the finest films releasing this year. It deserves a try to watch.
